Chatan liegt etwa 40 Minuten von Naha entfernt an der Westküste Okinawas – mit einer energiegeladenen Mischung aus japanischer Gelassenheit, westlichem Entertainment und Meeresrauschen.

Der berühmteste Hotspot: Mihama American Village – ein schrill-fröhliches Viertel mit fast schon Disneyland-Vibes. Bunte Fassaden, Flohmarkt-Atmosphäre, Shops, Restaurants, Sessellifte, ein Riesenrad und Restaurants – alles im Stil eines amerikanischen Vergnügungszentrums . Woher das kommt? Die Amerikaner sind mit 35000 Soldaten (+deren Angehörige) auf Okinawa stationiert

Direkt an der Küste liegt Depot Island, dessen europäisch angehauchte Architektur einen wunderbaren Kontrast zur amerikanischen Ästhetik des Villagedarstellt .
