Die Yeti Tundra 35 ist die ultimative Kühlbox für alle, die keine Kompromisse bei der Kühlleistung eingehen wollen. Ob es bei mir beim Tauchen ist oder bei jeder anderen denkbaren Freizeit Aktivität. In den USA hat fast jeder Outdoor begeisterte mindestens eine Yeti Box und meistens auch noch viele andere Yeti Produkte. Zu Recht, wie ich finde, da die Qualität unglaublich gut ist.

Yeti stellt nur hochwertige Outdoor Ausrüstungsgegenstände her, wie: Thermobecher und Flaschen, Kühltaschen, Reisetaschen, Lunchboxen usw…

Mit ihrer robusten Bauweise, überragenden Isolierung und durchdachten Details setzen diese Boxen neue Maßstäbe. Allerdings auch kostentechnisch. Dafür halten diese Kühlboxen auch ein Leben lang.

Designt werden alle Yeti Produkte in Texas, USA. Die Boxen werden auf den Philippinen und Polen hergestellt. Viele Materialien sind aus Recyceltem Kunststoff hergestellt.

Design & Verarbeitung – der Panzer unter den Kühlboxen

Schon beim ersten Blick auf die Yeti Tundra 35 wird klar: Diese Kühlbox ist nicht für den sanften Picknick-Ausflug gedacht. Sie ist massiv, schwer und kompromisslos robust. Das liegt an der Rotationsguss-Konstruktion, die ähnlich wie bei Hochleistungskajaks gefertigt wird. Das bedeutet: Keine schwachen Stellen, keine billigen Nähte – nur pure Stabilität. Ein absoluter Endgegner!

Die Kühlbox hat ein Innenvolumen von 25 Liter. Aber erst gibt auch noch viele andere Größen zu kaufen. Da ist für jeden Zweck definitiv die richtige zu finden! Die Tundra 35 reicht für mich alleine für ein langes Wochenende. Das bedeutet mindestens 8 Liter Getränke und jede Menge Sandwiches und ähnliches. Zu zweit geht es sicherlich auch noch, wenn man kein Eis mitnimmt und dafür den Yeti Kühlakku verwendet. Ab drei Personen braucht man eine größere Box.

Die Scharniere sind ebenfalls enorm robust und kein Spielzeug. Die Dichtungen sind auch von größter Güte. Wichtig, damit keine Kälte entweicht. Deshalb hält das Eis in der Box auch ewig, weil die Box hermetisch Dicht ist.

Die Box ist so stabil, das ich sie als Sitzgelegenheit mit kompletten Tauchgerät nutze. Insgesamt sicherlich weit über 120 KG Lasten dann auf dem Deckel und Box, die das locker wegsteckt.

Yeti verspricht, dass diese Kühlbox bärenresistent ist – sie hält sogar Angriffen von Grizzlybären stand (mit entsprechendem Schloss). Ich denke das ich in Deutschland das weniger testen werde. Aber so massiv wie die Tundra wirkt, glaube ich das einfach mal.

Die T-Rex™ Verschlüsse sind aus ultra-strapazierfähigem Gummi gefertigt und lassen sich leicht öffnen und schließen. Sollten sie mal kaputt gehen (wahrscheinlich nur durch einen Grizzly möglich) kann man diese natürlich nachkaufen. Die NeverFail™ (der Name ist Programm) Scharniere  sorgen dafür, dass nichts bricht oder ausleiert – ein bekanntes Problem bei günstigen Kühlboxen.

Kühlleistung – Die Kältefestung

Die wichtigste Frage: Wie lange bleiben Getränke und Lebensmittel wirklich kalt?

Die Yeti Tundra 35 hat eine Permafrost™ Isolierung mit bis zu 5 cm dickem Polyurethanschaum in den Wänden und im Deckel. Größere Boxen sind noch dicker! In Kombination mit der interlockierenden Konstruktionsweise sorgt das dafür, dass Kälte im Inneren bleibt und Hitze draußen. Ich habe das in Florida im Hochsommer erleben können. Nach 4 Tagen auf der Ladefläche des Pick-ups war das Eis in der Box immer noch nicht geschmolzen. Draußen waren es im Schatten gute 28 Grad! Wirklich unglaublich und überzeugend.

Damals wurde eigentlich schon der Entschluss gefasst, mir eine Yeti Box zuzulegen.

Natürlich hängt die Dauerleistung von den Außentemperaturen, der Beladung und der Häufigkeit des Öffnens ab. Wer die Kühlbox clever packt -wichtig ist, das zu den Eiswürfeln noch zusätzlich die Yeti Kühlakkus in der Box sind- hat ein ganzes Wochenende gekühlte Getränke und andere Lebensmittel. Je größer die Eiswürfel, desto besser. Ich nutze 5x5x5 cm große Würfel. Die halten ewig. Mein Eisfach ist allerdings auch auf Minus 25 Grad eingestellt.

Praxistauglichkeit – Clever durchdacht

Die Yeti Tundra 35 ist kompakt, aber geräumig. Sie fasst etwa 20 Dosen 0,33 Liter mit ausreichend Eis. Mit im Lieferumfang ist ein Korb um das Kühlgut vom Eis zu seperieren.

Die Box wiegt leer rund 10 kg, mit Inhalt wird sie entsprechend schwer. Dafür hat sie rutschfeste Standfüße, damit sie sicher auf Booten, Ladeflächen oder unebenen Böden steht. Die Griffe sind bequem geformt, und für schwere Lasten gibt es seitliche Seilgriffe, die sich mit zwei Personen greifen lassen. Voll beladen, ist das absolut notwendig!

Sehr praktisch ist auch der Vortex Ablass, mit dem sich geschmolzenes Eis einfach ablassen lässt, ohne die Kühlbox kippen zu müssen. Super praktisch, wenn man Eis nachfüllen will und entsprechend Platz braucht.

Die Yeti Tundra 35 ist perfekt für:

Wer eine unzerstörbare, hervorragend verarbeitete, extrem lange kühlende Kühlbox braucht, ist mit der Yeti Tundra bestens beraten! Für ein sehr langes Wochenende reicht die Kühlleistung definitiv! Wichtig ist zu wissen, welche Größe man braucht. Ich als Single brauche wahrscheinlich keine größere Box.

Edit: ich habe mir noch die Tundra 65 gekauft, es ging nicht anders.

Yeti manufactures only high-quality outdoor equipment, such as tumblers and bottles, cooler bags, travel bags, lunch boxes, and more. With their robust construction, superior insulation, and well-thought-out details, these coolers set new standards. However, they also come with a premium price tag. In return, these coolers are built to last a lifetime.
Yeti products are designed in Texas, USA. The coolers are manufactured in the Philippines and Poland. Many materials are made from recycled plastic.

Design & Craftsmanship – The tank among coolers

At first glance, it is clear: The Yeti Tundra 35 is not intended for a gentle picnic trip. It is massive, heavy, and uncompromisingly robust. This is due to the rotomolded construction, similar to high-performance kayaks. This means: No weak spots, no cheap seams—just pure stability. An absolute heavyweight!
The cooler has an internal volume of 25 liters, though many other sizes are available to suit every purpose. The Tundra 35 is sufficient for me alone for a long weekend—meaning at least 8 liters of drinks and plenty of sandwiches or similar items. It certainly works for two people as well if you don’t pack ice and use the Yeti ice packs instead. From three people upwards, you need a larger box.
The hinges are also extremely robust, not toys. The gaskets are of the highest quality, which is important to prevent cold from escaping. This is why the ice in the box lasts forever—the box is hermetically sealed.
The box is so stable that I use it as a seat with my full scuba gear on. In total, there is certainly well over 120 kg of load on the lid and box, and it handles it with ease.
Yeti promises that this cooler is bear-resistant—it even withstands attacks from grizzly bears (with the appropriate locks). I think I will test that less in Germany, but given how massive the Tundra feels, I believe it.
The T-Rex™ latches are made of ultra-durable rubber and are easy to open and close. Should they ever break (likely only possible by a grizzly), you can, of course, buy replacements. The NeverFail™ (the name says it all) hinges ensure that nothing breaks or wears out—a known problem with cheaper coolers.

Cooling Performance – The fortress of cold

The most important question: How long do drinks and food really stay cold?
The Yeti Tundra 35 features Permafrost™ insulation with up to 5 cm thick polyurethane foam in the walls and lid. Larger boxes are even thicker! Combined with the interlocking construction, this ensures that the cold stays inside and the heat stays out. I experienced this in Florida in the middle of summer. After 4 days in the bed of a pickup truck, the ice in the box still hadn’t melted. Outside, it was a good 28 degrees in the shade! Truly incredible and convincing.
Back then, I basically made the decision to get a Yeti box for myself.
Of course, the long-term performance depends on outside temperatures, how it’s packed, and how often it is opened. If you pack the cooler cleverly—it is important to have the Yeti ice packs in the box in addition to the ice cubes—you will have chilled drinks and food for a whole weekend. The larger the ice cubes, the better. I use 5x5x5 cm cubes. They last forever. My freezer, however, is set to minus 25 degrees.

Practicality – Cleverly thought out

The Yeti Tundra 35 is compact yet spacious. It holds about 20 cans of 0.33 liters with enough ice. Included is a basket to separate your food from the ice.
The empty box weighs around 10 kg; with contents, it becomes correspondingly heavy. To compensate, it has non-slip feet so that it stands securely on boats, truck beds, or uneven ground. The handles are comfortably shaped, and for heavy loads, there are side rope handles that can be gripped by two people. Fully loaded, that is absolutely necessary!
Also very practical is the Vortex drain system, which allows melted ice to be easily drained without having to tilt the cooler. This is super practical when you want to refill ice and need space.

Conclusion:

If you need an indestructible, excellently crafted, and extremely long-lasting cooler, the Yeti Tundra is the best choice! For a very long weekend, the cooling capacity is definitely sufficient! It is important to know which size you need. As a single person, I probably don’t need a larger box.
